Joseph J. Meka Sr., 82, of Clifford Twp., died Saturday, June 11, 2022 at home. His wife of 62 years is the former Georgette Howanitz.
Born in Forest City he was the son of the late Joseph and Stella (Partyka) Meka. A graduate of Forest City High School, prior to retirement he was employed by General Motors Company in Linden, New Jersey. During retirement he had a lawn care business helping those in his community.
Joseph was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing while spending many hours on his boat in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. He shared his love of the outdoors with his son and who has passed it to his daughters. He was a member of the S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie. He enjoyed planting his vegetable gardens and his special tomatoes. In later years, he spent time with his granddaughters, Elizabeth and Isabelle sharing stories of his childhood picking blueberries and other adventures.
Also surviving are son Joseph J. Meka Jr. and wife Wendy, Lake City; granddaughters Elizabeth and Isabelle Meka and grandson Andrew Bennett; great-grandchildren Maxwell, Rose Mary, and Callahan; brother Edward Meka and wife Jean, Vestal, NY; sisters Carol Less and husband Barry, Saint Johns Fl; and Mary Meka, Mechanicsburg; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann Gilliard and husband Andy, Denton, TX, Johanna Sorrells, Sanger, TX, and George Howanitz and wife Cynthia, Jessup; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 am in the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home 1003 Church St., Jessup. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery in Jessup. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie, http://sonsoflakeerie.org/. Family and friends and may pay their respects Saturday morning from 9:30 until time of service.
