Obituary for Anne Flannery

Anne P. Flannery, 95, of Jessup died Friday March 31, 2023 at the Mountain View Care Center. She was the widow of the late James P. Flannery who passed away on March 29, 1996.
Born in Montrose on July 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Paul H. and Anne Mackin Pethick. She was a graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1945, and of Keystone College, Class of 1947. Before starting her family, she was employed by International Salt Co., and later worked for many years at Biancarelli’s Pharmacy in Jessup.
Living most of her life in Jessup, she was a member of St. James Church, now the Queen of Angels Parish, where she sang in the church choir. She was a charter member of the Catholic Choral Club and the Opera IV, under the direction of Norbert K. Betti.
Devoted to her faith, dependable to all who relied upon her, and proudly independent, Anne was a tireless pedestrian. If you didn’t know her from the pharmacy or church, chances are you just knew the pleasant, pretty woman, walking wherever she needed to go in town.
Anne was an accomplished baker who was famous within her family and beyond for her various cakes and marshmallow brownies. “Grandma” was also quite the grammarian, mercilessly identifying errors – from school essays to newspapers. It’s likely this obituary is being edited from above. She obsessed over the comfort of those in her midst, always insisting they needed more light to do their work; another blanket to keep warm; or more “sustenance” from her kitchen.
Anne’s Family would like to thank the kind and caring staff of Mountain View Care Center, along with the comforting guidance of those at the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home.
