Josephine “Josie” McColligan of Scranton, formerly Josie Uzialko, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, July 1. She was seventy-four years old.
As the only daughter among the seven children of the late Edward and Mildred Kilpatrick Uzialko, she and her brothers grew up in the Winton section of Jessup. After graduating from Jessup High School, she attended Keystone College. She worked at Saint Mary’s Villa in Elmhurst for more than thirty years, retiring in 2016.
A devoted Christian, she was an active member of Grace Reformed Episcopal Church in Scranton where she assisted with children’s Sunday school classes and attended the weekly Women’s Bible study faithfully. She kept her church community as close to her heart as she did her own family.
Josie was a compassionate and loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She gave everything she could to help others, especially her children and grandchildren. She would rather have nothing left for herself than allow a loved one to go without. She enjoyed traveling with her lifelong friend, Gloria and her husband James Lyons, Jessup, PA, and was fortunate to visit France, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, Hawaii and Florida just to name a few of her favorites. She appreciated the live biblical performances at the Sight & Sound theater in Lancaster, PA, and was her grandchildren’s greatest fan at their dance recitals and sporting events.
She is survived by four daughters, Doreen Kearney and husband Richard, Moosic PA, Donna Boock and husband Andrew, Venice, FL, Melissa Cuff and husband Tim, Old Forge PA and Michelle McColligan, Clarks Summit, PA, two brothers, Edward and wife Mary, Rochester, NY, John and wife Bonnie, Eynon, PA, two sisters in law Maryann Uzialko, Carbondale, PA, and Regina Uzialko, Archbald, PA, six grandchildren, Alexandrea, Gabriella, Riley, Matthew, Kylee and Kacen, as well as several nieces and nephews including her beloved Godson David Uzialko.
