Helen Wartko of Dickson City, formerly of Jessup died Tuesday January 10, 2017 at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit following a brief illness. She was the widow of Joseph E. Wartko who passed away in 1966.
Born in Jessup, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Susan Chipak Horvath. A graduate of Blakely High School, she was employed in the local garment industry working for Barbizon, Jo-Babe, and Leslie Fay; prior to retirement she was employed by Maid-Rite Steaks.
Helen was a faithful and active member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church where she taught CCD for over 25 years. She assisted in fundraising events for St. Mary’s Guild and was a member of the Greek Catholic Union.
Surviving are daughters Pamela Walsh and husband Patrick, Dickson City, Miriam Yarosh and husband Henry, Archbald, and Paula Primich and husband Daniel, Olyphant; grandchildren Ian and wife Christi, Lydia, Nora, Aaron, and Andrew; great-grandchildren Jakub and Nicholas; sisters Mildred Harrigan, Susan Sestili, and Eileen Kushner.
She was preceded in death by sisters Mary Saslo, Julia Himchak, and Anna Bistran; brothers Andrew, John, and Frank Horvath.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home, 1003 Church St., Jessup, with Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, First Avenue, Jessup. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery, Jessup.
Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Parastas service will be held at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, First Avenue Jessup, PA 18434.
